Should You Use a General Contractor?

Why Use a General Contractor?

I know, it’s generally cheaper to hire an unlicensed person to do your basement. Why would you pay slightly more for the same work?

Great question, here are 4 clear reasons it makes sense:

  1. Asset protection: Suppose your unlicensed basement finisher hurts himself during construction. Is he insured? Does he have worker’s compensation insurance? If not, guess who is 100% responsible? What if the uninsured damages your house? Who will pay for the repairs? Without liability insurance from  a ...

Finish Times

Basement finish times are trending up because we are in the mist of a building boom similar to what we experienced in 2003-2006. Hopefully we won’t have a similar crash afterward.

Due to the building boom we’re experiencing longer wait times for everything.

  • Building permits are now taking 3-4 weeks to issue
  • Doors take almost 2 weeks to manufacture
  • Subs are busy and even though we’re a top priority they still have to work us in

It’s great for the economy but it is taking ...

Drywall Texture Trends in Basement Finishing

Trends in Basement Drywall Texture

The amount and type of texture that is applied to a wall has changed significantly in the last few years. Until recently, most walls were finished with heavier textures. Many of these textures such as Old World Style, were very heavy and looked like more of an exterior application.

Recently trends have started to swing back toward smoother textures. Many home owners are asking for smooth finish on both the walls and ceiling.

What are the advantages and ...

Hardwood Floors in a Kitchen

Almost everyone loves hardwood floors. They look fantastic. Many people put them in most of the living space of their homes. Usually they exclude the bathrooms but not the kitchen.

Why skip the bathroom… it’s always wet. It’s hard to avoid getting the floor wet when you get our of the shower. The added water would quickly ruin a hardwood floor. It will warp and ripple, looks bad and gets sharp edges.

Usually the kitchen is a much dryer place. Most fell ...

How Much Will it Cost to Finish My Basement

The question we hear most from prospective clients– how much will it cost?

The base price for every basement we finish is $14 but there are a lot of factors that can influence the final cost to build.

It’s similar to the process of buying a car. You know the base price but it’s expected that features such as air conditioning and a moon roof will add the cost and value of the car. It’s the same with basement finishing.

Some popular features ...

Bamboo Flooring

Bamboo- the Wise Choice for Modern Homes

I’m not sure if you’re like me but when I think of Bamboo I’m inclined to picture a fly fishing rod not flooring. But that a mistake. Bamboo is actually a really good choice for floor coverings.

  • Cost: Bamboo is one of the cheapest hardwood options
  • Flexibility: Bamboo can be stained to achieve many different looks and styles from dark to light.
